Do you know this? You enter a place and immediately you feel right at home. That’s the way we felt when we first stepped into the little Flatschers Bistrot at Kaiserstraße. We were greeted with French chanson Music and a lovley staff member took care of us the minute we stepped inside. There was a lot going on already. Two friends of ours had made a reservation an were already waiting for us. After a friendy address of welcome we were very excited to see what the Flatschers had to offer.
A typical French waiter (let me tell you, he was really cute) served the aperitif – in French, of course – a tasty rosé wine from France. In the background you could hear „Aux Champs-Elysées …“ and we were in a French heaven. Al was so excited, that we decided to go back to Paris for a couple of days this year. It’s been so long …
While we waited for the appetizers we had enough time to take a look around.
Everything looked very comfy and the interior was mostly made out of wood. Soft lighting, pretty tables, small and large, a lot of books and other stuff from Paris. A little board was placed next to the entrance to greet us. A big bar, lots of shelves with glasses and a nice selection of Gin, Whisky and Rum, to name but a few. A wooden ladder leaning against the rack made it easier for the staff to reach the drinks.
In the meantime they served the first course. Moules Frites with homemade mayonnaise and baguette. The ladies got a bib with a heart on the front, the gents got one with a tie. Oh we all looked so funny!
For drinks they brought us an outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from southern France. The mussels were served in a light sauce with Parmesan, blue cheese and white wine. The mayonnaise in combination with the mussels was absolutely excellent and the baguette, we haven’t had anything quite like it outisde of Paris.
To be honest we’d had enough after the first course and were quite happy that they allowed us a little break in between courses. That way we had time to Chat and enjoy the event to the fullest.
The lovely evening continued with the main course. In a cast-iron pan they served us medium grilled Entrecôte in a sauce with red wine, mushrooms and bacon. We also got crispy fries in a lovely enamel pan on the side. Preheated dishes made it so that the meat did not cool down too much. With this course they also served French red wine. Since we are no sommiliers we can only say that we really enjoyed the wine, it tasted of strawberries and a little bit woody. But like I said, we are no wine experts.
Again, we really enjoyed this course, only shortcoming were the fries, which tasted a bit like chip fat.
The Flatschers Bistrot and Bar really satisfied us. We let the evening come to a cosy end with a couple of friends. We’d love to come back to this little piece of Paris to enjoy a tiny bit of French atmosphere.
