Mailand im Frühling

Wie Ihr sicher wisst, bin ich seit vergangenem September ganz verliebt in Mailand. Für mich neben Paris und New York eine der schönsten Städte der Welt. Im Herbst stand schon fest, dass ich im Frühjahr wieder nach Mailand reisen werde.

As you may remember, I’m in love with the city of Milan ever since my last trip in September. For me it’s one of the most beautiful cities of the world, along with Paris and New York. I already knew back in autumn that I would be going back to Milan pretty soon.

Kurz entschlossen buchten wir vor vier Wochen ein Wochenende in Milano. Ich wollte unbedingt wieder in das Uptown Palace Milano, das wir im September schon gebucht hatten. Flug und Hotel waren ein Schnäppchen. In Mailand gibt es vier Flughäfen: Linate, Malpensa, Mailand-Bresso und Orio al Serio. Malpensa liegt etwas außerhalb der Stadt und deshalb braucht man ungefähr eine Stunde in die City. Dieser Flughafen wird von Austrian Airlines angeflogen. Linate ist ein stadtnaher Flughafen, das heißt man fährt mit dem Linienbus ca. eine halbe Stunde in die Stadt und wird von Air Berlin und Fly Niki angeflogen.

Without much hesitation we booked a weekend in Milano about four weeks ago. I really wanted to go back to the Uptown Palace Milano which we had stayed at last time. Flights and Hotel were a bargain. There are four airports in Milan, Linate, Malpensa, Milan-Bresso and Orio al Serio. Malpensa is located a ways away, so it takes you about an hour to get to the city. This airport is serviced by Austrian Airlines. Linate is quite a bit closer to the city, by bus it takes you about half an hour to get to the centre, Air Berlin and Fly Niki fly to and from this airport.

Wir hatten diesmal großes Glück und landeten in Linate, in genau 40 Minuten waren wir in unserem Hotel. Um 6:40 Uhr in Wien abgeflogen und um 9:00 Uhr waren wir schon in unserem Zimmer. Hurra, besser konnte es nicht gehen!

Wie bei unserem ersten Besuch, war ich von Mailand einfach fasziniert. Leider hatten wir mit dem Wetter etwas Pech. Einen Tag hat es wie aus Kübeln geschüttet und am nächsten war es bitterkalt. Für uns kein Problem, denn wenn man diese Stadt so liebt wie wir, stört das fiese Wetter auch nicht.

We were lucky this time and we landed at Linate, it took us exactly 40 minutes to get to our hotel. Left the airport in Vienna at 6:40 A.M. and arrived in our room at 9 o’clock. Hurray, could not have planned it any better.

Just like the first time we came here, I was amazed by Milan. Unfortunately the weather was not quite on our side. One day it rained a lot and the next day it was really cold. No problem for us though, if you love a place, you don’t really care about the mean weather.

Ich habe diesmal bewusst etwas andere Motive gewählt, um Euch eine Seite von Mailand zu zeigen, die Ihr vielleicht noch nicht kennt.

This time I chose to show you some unusual scenes, just to give you an idea of what Milan looks like aside from the places everybody knows.

Wir sind in den Süden gefahren und haben die zwei alten Handelskanäle, Naviglio Grande und Naviglio di Pavia, besichtigt. Kaufmänner befuhren diese antiken Kanäle. Man hat hier im Laufe der Zeit ein hippes Viertel geschaffen. Eine etwas schmuddelige Gegend aber mit viel Potential. Im Sommer ein beliebter Treffpunkt für Jung und Alt.

We went south and checked out two old trade channels, Naviglio Grande and Naviglio di Pavia. Long ago they were frequented by salesmen. Time after time this started to be quite the hip neighbourhood. Slightly dingy but certainly a lot of potential there. A favourite meeting point in summer for the young and the old.

Schon lange wollte ich mir das Finanzviertel mit der Börse ansehen, diesmal haben wir es geschafft. Die Mailänder Börse befindet sich im Palazzo Mezzanotte an der Piazza Affari. Nach ihrem Sitz wird die Börse umgangssprachlich auch Piazza Affari genannt. Der erste Handelstag war der 15. Februar 1808.

I’ve wanted to see the finance district and the stock market for quite a while, this time we actually made it. The Milan stock market is located at Palazzo Mezzanotte at Piazza Affari. That’s why some people actually call the stock market Piazza Affari. It opened February 15^th, 1808.

Die Colonne di San Lorenzo gegenüber der Basilika di San Lorenzo in Corso di Porta Ticinese. Die 16 korinthischen Marmorsäulen aus dem römischen Zeitalter waren Teil der tragenden Konstruktion eines Gebäudes aus dem 3. Jahrhundert. Wahrscheinlich handelte es sich um eine Therme.

Colonne di San Lorenzo opposite of Basilika di San Lorenzo at Corso di Porta Ticinese. The 16 Corinthian marble columns from the roman age were part of the bearing construction of a building from the 3^rd century, possibly a spa.

Wunderschöne, typisch italienische Innenhöfe prägen das Stadtbild Mailands. Üppig bepflanzt bieten sie auch im Winter und Frühling einen herrlichen Anblick.

Beautiful, Italian yards are what define Milan. Full of all kinds of plants they are a sight to behold, in winter as well as in spring.

So jetzt heißt es Abschied nehmen, aber der nächste Herbst kommt bestimmt und da geht es für uns wieder nach Mailand. Vielleicht diesmal auch etwas länger, gerne würden wir uns in diesem Zeitraum ein Appartement mieten, mal sehen!

Right, time to say goodbye for now, but autumn will come soon and we shall be back in Milan again. Maybe a little bit longer next time, we’d like to actually stay at an apartment then, who knows.
