Midi: Kleines Bistro ganz groß!

Der Hohe Markt mitten in Wien ist um eine kulinarische Attraktion reicher. Das kleine MIDI – le petit déli, ein süßes Bistro mit Feinkost, hat hier vor kurzem eröffnet.

Hoher Markt in the middle of Vienna now has one more culinary attraction. The MIDI – le petit deli, a lovely little Bistro opened its doors here not long ago.

Als wir davon erfuhren, mussten wir natürlich sofort das kleine Déli in der Innenstadt aufsuchen. Es war um die Mittagszeit, wir – super hungrig und natürlich auch neugierig – freuten uns schon auf ein zwangsloses, französisches Essen.

When we first heard about it we had to check the little déli out right away. It was around noon, we were quite hungry, curious and looking forward to some nice, tasty French food.

Zwischen der Tuchlauben und der Ankeruhr findet man das MIDI. Es ist wirklich sehr klein, aber total süß, alles sehr hell. Besonders entzückend fanden wir die weißen Fliesen mit Monsieur Moustache mit Baguette und Einkaufskorb.

You’ll find MIDI right between Tuchlauben and Ankeruhr. It’s really quite small but totally cute and very bright inside. We also loved the white tiles with Monsieur Moustache on them with baguette and a shopping bag.

Wir lernten auch gleich die zwei Besitzer kennen, beide in blau-weiß gestreiften Shirts. Stilecht sozusagen. Guilhem Baribeaud, aufgewachsen in Paris und Wien sowie Pessah Yampolsky, ein Biologe mit israelischen Wurzeln. Beide Quereinsteiger. Den Koch Franck Sebilleau, er führte ein Restaurant in der Bretagne, bekommt man leider nicht zu Gesicht, aber seine Gerichte sind kleine Köstlichkeiten. Generell ist das Team bunt durchgemischt: Franzosen, Österreicher und ein Senegalese. Eine kulturelle Mischung, die die angebotenen Gerichte nur noch interessanter macht.

We also had a chance to meet the owners, both in blue and white striped shirts. True to their style you might say. Guilhem Baribeaud, who grew up in Paris and Vienna as well as Pessah Yampolsky, a biologist originally from Israel. Both new to the business. We did not get to meet the cook, Franck Sebilleau, who has formerly had a restaurant in Brittany, but his meals are just excellent. The team in general comes from all over the world, French, Austrian and one person from Senegal. A cultural mixture which makes the meals they offer that much more interesting.

Der Mittagstisch bietet leichte, abwechslungsreiche französische Küche in angenehmer Atmosphäre. Alles wird frisch zubereitet und in einer kleinen Schauküche angerichtet.

Wir probierten aus dem umfangreichen Sortiment die Babyspinat-Bergkäse-Lasagne mit Blattsalat,

For lunch they offer light, French cuisine in a nice ambience. Everything is freshly prepared and arranged in an open kitchen.

From their pretty exciting menu we tried the babyspinach-cheese-lasagna with spinach leaves,

einen französischen Salat mit Nüssen und Ziegenkäsecroutons

a French salad with nuts and goat cheese croutons,

sowie Lachs mit Ratatouille und Kartoffeln – ein Klassiker am Freitag.

Quiche gibt es übrigens immer, außerdem vegetarische und vegane Speisen.

They always offer quiche as well by the way, as well as vegetarian and vegan meals. 

Alle Gerichte gibt es auch als TAKE AWAY. Wer will, kann sich aus der Vitrine, schon vorbereiteten Quinoa-Salat oder auch Süßspeisen mit nach Hause nehmen.

Man kann hier auch einkaufen: Senfspezialitäten, Weine, Sardinen und Fleur de Sel.

They also offer all their food as TAKE AWAY. If you want to you can take home already prepared quinoa-salad or desserts from the display cabinet.

You can also buy groceries here, special mustards, wines, sardines and fleur de sel.

Eine Wucht aber waren die Tartelettes mit den verschiedensten Füllungen. Wir probierten sie alle. Ich kann Euch sagen, das war ganz großes Kino. Bei unserem nächsten Besuch werden wir auf jeden Fall ein paar dieser Köstlichkeiten mit nach Hause nehmen.

The tartelettes with the different fillings were absolutely heavenly. We tried them all. Let me tell you it was more than worthwhile. On our next visit we will definitely take some stuff home with us.

Café mit ganz viel Liebe! Und auch das Publikum ist bunt durchgemischt. Jung, alt, Franzosen, Touristen und frankophile Österreicher, zu denen wir uns eindeutig zählen.

Café with a lot of love. There’s also quite a selection of different people who come here. Young, old, French, tourists, Francophile Austrians, which would be us.

Die zwangslose Atmosphäre, die freundlichen Leute und die leichte französische Küche machen das kleine MIDI zu unserem Lieblingsdéli. Wenn Ihr einmal in der Nähe seid, dann probiert es aus. Ihr werdet sehen, wir haben Euch nicht zu viel versprochen!

The casual ambience, the lovely people and the tasty French cuisine all make the MIDI our favourite déli. Go give it a try if you’re in the neighbourhood. You’ll see for yourself just how amazing it is.
